NEW DELHI: An Air India Delhi-Mumbai flight on Wednesday declared an emergency before landing at the destination after getting a fire engine on one of the two CFM engines powering the Airbus A320neo.
The pilots declared May Dayand informed Mumbai air traffic control. Luckily the aircraft landed safely and uneventfully in Mumbai at 1.10am and is grounded there for checks now.The Directorate General of Civil Aviation is probing this latest engine scare.
“AI 814 operating Delhi to Mumbai on 19 December 19, 2023, experienced a fire warning indication on one of its engines. As a precaution, an emergency was declared and air traffic control was informed. The flight landed uneventfully and, upon inspection, no signs of fire or smoke were detected,” an Air India spokesperson said.
The warning on the aircraft (VT-CIH) came just when it was to land in Mumbai. As per protocol, fire extinguishers were discharged and then an emergency was declared. Sources say this was most likely a false alarm as checks post-landing did not show any signs of fire or smoke.
