Yuko Takeuchi, Japanese Actress of 'Miss Sherlock' and 'Ring', Dies at 40 - Hollywood Reporter

Takeuchi was found dead early Sunday in her Tokyo residence by police officials in what is being investigated as an apparent suicide. 

Yuko Takeuchi, a Japanese actress who starred in the Hulu and HBO Asia drama Miss Sherlock and horror hit Ring, has died. She was 40.

Takeuchi was found dead early Sunday in her Tokyo residence by police officials in what is being investigated as an apparent suicide. Takeuchi's husband, actor Taiki Nakabayashi, reportedly found the actress in their bedroom around 2 a.m., according to The Japan Times. No suicide note has been found.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department has launched an investigation into her death.

Takeuchi was known for her array of works in film and television. She made her film debut with Innocent World in 1998. She later starred in Closed Note and Midnight Eagle in 2007, both of which were featured in overseas festivals. She also starred in the horror film, The Ring. 

Other works include the drama series Asuka, TBS drama Shiroi Kage and the film The Confidence Man JP- Episode of the Princess. 

Takeuchi also portrayed the female Japanese Sherlock Holmes in the 2018 Hulu and HBO Asia drama Miss Sherlock. The series was broadcast in multiple countries including the U.S.

Throughout her career, the actress won the Japanese Academy Film Prize for outstanding performance by an actress in a leading role three years in a row. She won the award from 2004 to 2007, Japanese news agency Kyodo News reports.

Survivors include her husband and two sons. Her second child was born in January.
