Covid News LIVE: State-run healthcare facilities in Uttar Pradesh seem to be running out of vaccines as the rush for precaution doses increases, following reports of rising Covid cases in China and some other countries.

Officials said it will take at least a week for fresh supplies to arrive. The Covid vaccinations are being done at 14 hospitals in the state capital -- 10 private and four government.

The government healthcare facilities offering vaccination are SPM Civil Hospital, NK Road Community Health Centre, Lok Bandhu Hospital and Balrampur Hospital.

A total of 96 people were vaccinated at private hospitals on Monday while those coming to the government hospitals were asked to come after a week.

District immunisation officer Dr M.K. Singh confirmed vaccine unavailability at the government centres and said requests have been sent to the government for fresh supplies.

According to data, about 31 lakh people aged 18 years and above in the state capital have not taken precaution doses so far.

Officials said the demand for vaccines dropped drastically after the decline of the pandemic, hence hospitals did not place fresh orders.

The genome sequencing report of the six international passengers who had landed at various international airports in Tamil Nadu has reported no BF.7 variant of Omicron. Tamil Nadu Health Minister, Ma Subramanian yesterday said that the two China-returned passengers, who tested Covid-19 positive, were affected by BA5.2. One passenger each from Muscat, Kuwait, and Bangkok was identified with BA.2 strain of Omicron. Another passenger, who arrived from Muscat and tested positive has the XBB.1 strain of Omicron.

In an article on Tuesday, People's Daily, the official newspaper of the Communist Party, cited several Chinese experts as saying the illness caused by the virus was relatively mild for the vast majority of people."Severe and critical illnesses account for 3% to 4% of infected patients currently admitted to designated hospitals in Beijing," Tong Zhaohui, Vice President of Beijing Chaoyang Hospital, told the newspaper.Kang Yan, head of West China Tianfu Hospital of Sichuan University, said that in the past three weeks, a total of 46 critically ill patients have been admitted to intensive care units, accounting for about 1% of symptomatic infections.

Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) bulletin on Monday said that the overall infection rate is below 500 per day in India. “In northern part of India, XBB was prevalent, whereas in the eastern part, BA.2.75 was the prevalent sub-lineage. BA.2.10 and other Omicron sub-lineage frequency was lower last week. However, any increase in disease severity or hospitalisation has not been observed over this period,” it said.

The Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) bulletin was released on Monday.According to the bulletin, BA.2.75 and BA.2.10 were also circulating but in lesser extent.“Especially, in north-east India, BA.2.75 is the prevalent sub-lineage. However, any increase in disease severity or hospitalisation has not been observed over this period,” it said.The INSACOG said Omicron and its sub-lineages continue to be the dominant variant in India. XBB is the most prevalent sub-lineage (63.2 per cent) circulating all over India.
